Measurement Tool
Oakden Property includes an AI-powered photo measurement tool that estimates dimensions from photographs. It is useful for renovation planning, flooring estimates, paint calculations, and general space assessment.
How It Works
The measurement tool uses a three-step process:
- Capture — Take a photo of the room or surface you want to measure. Use your phone camera or upload an existing image.
- Calibrate — Identify a reference object in the photo that has a known dimension. This could be a standard door (80 inches tall), a credit card, a ruler, or any object whose real-world size you know. The AI uses this reference to establish scale.
- Measure — Select the points or areas you want to measure. The AI calculates distances, areas, and dimensions based on the calibrated scale.
What You Can Measure
- Room dimensions (length and width)
- Wall heights
- Window and door openings
- Surface areas for flooring or painting
- Countertop lengths
- Outdoor spaces and decking areas
Tips for Accuracy
- Lighting matters — Bright, even lighting produces the best results
- Angle — Shoot as straight-on as possible, perpendicular to the surface you are measuring
- Include a reference object — Always have something of known size visible in the frame
- Multiple photos — For complex spaces, take several photos from different angles
Accuracy Expectations
AI-powered photo measurement is an estimation tool, not a precision instrument. Typical accuracy ranges from 85% to 95% depending on photo quality, angle, and reference object clarity. For rough planning and budgeting, this is usually sufficient. For exact measurements needed for fabrication or custom work, always verify with a tape measure or laser tool.
