Daily Logs & Field Reports
Daily logs are the backbone of good construction project management. They protect you legally, help with billing disputes, and create a searchable history of everything that happened on a project.
Creating a Daily Log
From any project, click the Daily Logs tab and then New Log Entry. Each log includes:
- Date — Defaults to today, but you can backfill if needed
- Weather Conditions — Temperature, precipitation, wind. This matters for scheduling delays and material performance
- Crew on Site — Who was working, how many people, which trades
- Work Completed — What was accomplished today. Be specific: "Framed second-floor walls, south and east elevations" is better than "Framing work"
- Materials Used — What materials were consumed or delivered
- Issues or Delays — Any problems encountered, safety concerns, or schedule impacts
- Photos — Attach site photos directly to the log entry
Voice Capture
You do not need to type your daily logs. ProAI Builder supports voice capture on any device with a microphone.
Here is how it works:
- Tap the microphone icon on the daily log form
- Speak naturally about what happened on site: "Today we finished the rough-in plumbing on the main floor. Two plumbers on site. No issues. Delivered lumber for the second floor is stacked in the garage."
- The AI transcribes your speech and structures it into the proper log fields (weather, crew, work, materials, issues)
- Review and edit the structured log, then save
Voice capture works especially well on mobile when you are on the job site with dirty hands or limited time.
Photo Documentation
Every daily log can include photos. Take photos of:
- Work in progress before it gets covered up (framing before drywall, plumbing before insulation)
- Deliveries and material staging
- Issues or defects you want to document
- Safety conditions
Photos are timestamped and permanently attached to the log entry. They cannot be edited or removed after submission, which provides a tamper-evident record.
Searching and Filtering
All daily logs are fully searchable. Use the search bar to find logs containing specific keywords, dates, or team members. Filter by date range, project phase, or log type.
The AI assistant can also search your logs. Ask Arbor: "Show me all daily logs from February where we had weather delays" and it will find them instantly.
Why It Matters
In construction, disputes about what happened and when are common. A complete daily log history is your best defense. Insurance claims, client disagreements, subcontractor disputes, and warranty claims all become easier to resolve when you have dated, photo-documented records of every day on site.
