Blueprint Intelligence
Blueprint Intelligence is ProAI Builder's AI-powered drawing analysis feature. Upload construction drawings as PDFs and the AI extracts actionable data: scope identification, quantity takeoffs, material lists, and area calculations.
How to Use It
- Upload — Navigate to the Blueprints section of your project and upload a PDF of your construction drawings. Architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings are all supported.
- AI Processing — The AI analyzes the drawing, identifying elements like walls, doors, windows, rooms, fixtures, and annotations. Processing time depends on the complexity and number of pages, typically 1-3 minutes per page.
- Review Extracted Data — Once processing is complete, you will see a summary of what the AI identified:
- Room dimensions and areas - Door and window counts and sizes - Wall linear footage - Fixture counts - Material annotations and specifications
- Export to Budget or Estimate — Select the items you want and push them directly into a project budget or standalone estimate. The AI maps extracted quantities to standard cost code categories.
Quantity Takeoffs (QTO)
The core value of Blueprint Intelligence is automated quantity takeoffs. Instead of manually counting doors, measuring walls, and calculating areas from drawings, the AI does it in minutes. This is especially valuable for:
- Estimating — Generate material quantities for bids and proposals
- Budgeting — Build accurate line-item budgets from actual drawing data
- Ordering — Create material lists for supplier orders
- Verification — Cross-check subcontractor bids against your own quantities
Supported Drawing Types
- Architectural floor plans
- Elevations and sections
- Site plans
- Reflected ceiling plans
- Electrical layouts
- Plumbing layouts
Tips for Best Results
- Clear, high-resolution PDFs produce the best results. Scanned drawings work but clean digital exports are better.
- Include a scale indicator on the drawing so the AI can calibrate dimensions accurately.
- Standard drawing conventions (proper line weights, hatching, and annotations) improve element identification.
- Process individual sheets rather than entire drawing sets for faster results and more focused output.
Limitations
Blueprint Intelligence is a powerful estimation tool, but it is not a replacement for a professional estimator reviewing drawings manually. Always verify critical quantities before committing to contracts or orders. The AI excels at initial takeoffs and rough estimates, giving you a strong starting point that you can refine.
Use Blueprint Intelligence from the Blueprints tab on any project, or from the standalone Tools section in ProAI Builder.
